Be a Zoo Keeper for a day! If you ask a bobcat to “sit” – will he? What is a black bears favorite toy? How do you weigh a tortoise? What do the wolves eat? Find out the answers to these questions and learn many other fascinating things about animals and zoo keeping. These fun and engaging day camps are being offered to youth ages of 9- 12 and 13-15 that would like to learn about animals and actively participate in several aspects of the daily operation of the Pine Grove Zoo.
These programs are designed to be interactive and hands-on. Students will explore the Zoo’s facilities and get behind the scenes. They will learn about the Zoo’s resident animals as they experience and take part in how they are cared for in captivity.
Junior Zookeeper Day Camp (ages 9-12)

To care for animals in captivity, a zookeeper needs to know how their animals survive in the wild. Junior Zookeepers will learn about amazing animal adaptations by assisting keepers in the petting stable, examining animal artifacts and playing games!
Zookeeper Apprentice Day Camp (ages 13-15)
July 29, 2017 9:00am-3:00pm
Go beyond the basics of animal care and delve into the different ways zookeepers make sure every animal is happy and healthy. Zookeeper Apprentices will conduct animal observations, design their own exhibits, and learn how zoos are participating in conservation.
Camp Activities may include:
- Building fun enrichment items for the animals
- Watch and learn as the keepers train the cats!
- Feeding different animals
- Touring the zoo and behind the scenes!
- And helping the keepers with daily tasks such as preparing animal diets.

Registration is $50.00 ($45.00 for members) per child. Register before July 1st and save $5.00 on registration fee.
